City council balks at Ward I school committee nominee

I was encouraged to share two things that are happening in Rhode Island that are a big answer to prayer. Both came from the front page of The Providence Journal dated Saturday, November 3, 2007. The first is a story written by Mike Stanton titled “Martineau Pleads Guilty” this story is about an Ex-Representative that admits selling office to CVS and Blue Cross. Here in Rhode Island the FBI has been investigating many legislators due to ethics violations. At the 2006 &2007 National Day of Prayer events we prayed that any unethical activities taking place in the Rhode Island government would be found out and justice would be served. Since that time we have lost several key leaders in our government. There are seven just tied to this investigation named “Operation Dollar Bill”. We have a team that prays at the State House every other week and we are seeing prayers answered in unbelievable ways.

The second is a story right below written by Paul Davis and titled ”Shaking the Family Tree”. This story is about a woman named Katrina Browne and her journey into her family tree. She learned from her grandmother that her ancestors were very active in the slave trade in Rhode Island . She has written a documentary about her family’s involvement in the slave trade and wants to share with others that chapter of exploitation in American history. She and some members of her family would like to explore ways to atone for what her family has done. They are presenting this to various lawmakers in hopes that the government would also repent and apologize for their part in this.

As I was reading this, I kept thinking that I have been at various prayer meetings where we have asked people of Native American and African American decent to forgive us and we have repented and they have accepted and forgave. Katrina brought up a good point in that the government needs to also repent and apologize. If this happened can you imagine the blessings in the heavens and the release of God’s Spirit to move in a mighty way in Rhode Island ? I wanted to share these stories with you in hopes you could pass along what is happening here in Rhode Island and have people praying with and for us as God moves in our state.
